Training Tips for Fear and Reactivity on a Walk - Do you have dog who can be fearful or reactive on a walk who reacts when you try to talk to other people while out and about? Even if it is just to say "Hello" or "Good morning?" If so I suggest you watch this video. I saw newbear95's tutorial of how to teach your dog to scratch your back, and not only did I think it was the CUTEST TRICK EVER! but I also thought that newbear95 was super inventive in her way of training the trick. The tutorial is super simple and easy to follow! So I have a link to her tutorial at the end of the video. In this video you can see Kiko and I giving the trick a try.

I trained this trick using blatant luring with food in two sessions: One session with just the two objects and the next session switching to Splash's legs. A lot of trainers do not like to use luring because of the myth that it will be hard to get rid of the lure. The key with using luring is that you raise criteria rapidly.

These exercises are for all dogs, as most dogs do not like to be handled. This video is the first in a series to come...
I am sorry about the big block of text at the beginning of the video, but it is because this exercise needs to be taken seriously, as if done wrong you can scare a dog, and a frightened dog will bite, as will any animal that is frightened.
If you are worried that your dog is too shy or frightened to work with, you can talk to an animal behaviorist first. Another game you can do is just tossing the dog treats, and feeding the dog his meals by dropping the kibble for the dog following you.

This video goes over some simple exercises on how to teach your dog to stop jumping on you!
Remember! Dogs jump for a reason! It is either to get your attention, they are over aroused or stressed, or to acquiesce to you (when the dog tries to get to your mouth to lick it)

Tips:
1-Teach your dog what you want them to do instead of jumping up FIRST
2- Don't reinforce jumping up with attention
3- Proof by creating situations your dog will want to jump up in, so that the dog generalizes the behavior.
4- Prevent jumping when you are not in the mood to train your dog, by having your dog on leash or in his pen
